Frequently asked questions

Does Clarilis AI Draft replace automation?

No. Automated templates are still the gold standard – they consistently provide high-quality, carefully reviewed drafting. But AI can provide a fantastic starting point when you need deal-specific drafting that isn’t included in the template/automation.  Read more about this in our blog.

What makes Clarilis AI Draft different to ChatGPT / Copilot etc.?

AI tools like ChatGPT and Copilot can be great for everyday tasks, but they require a lot of ‘prompt engineering’ to be useful for legal work, and are detached from the drafting workflow. Clarilis AI Draft is designed so that you don’t need to be an AI expert to get useful, house-styled drafting directly into your documents.

How does AI Draft fit into the automation workflow?

First you start by completing the automation Clarilis Questionnaire as you usually would. You can then use AI Draft to create bespoke and novel content that isn’t already included within the automation. The automation might take you 90% of the way to a first draft: the aim of Clarilis AI Draft is to assist with the remaining 10%.

What can Clarilis AI Draft help me with?

You can use AI Draft to assist with a range of different drafting tasks. AI Draft is tailored to each task:

  • Defined Terms: Generate clear and consistent definitions for use within automated documents.
  • Clauses: Draft robust and customisable clauses tailored to specific requirements.
  • Schedules: Create structured schedules for inclusion in automated documents.
  • Ancillary Documents: Produce supplementary documents to support or extend a suite.
  • Emails and Letters: Generate formal communications such as client correspondence or legal notices.
Where does Clarilis AI Draft content come from?

We use a range of different models depending on the drafting task. Currently, we prefer OpenAI’s model, but we are always exploring the latest models to ensure we provide the best possible outputs. We then configure these models with expert knowledge in each practice area, drawn from our team of in-house knowledge lawyers.

Will my data/inputs be used to train the model?

No, neither user inputs nor AI responses are used to train the AI.

How can I tell where AI content has been incorporated into my documents and where will it appear?

Where a document contains AI content, a notice will be shown at the top of the document noting that the AI content will require review. Any inserted AI content will be highlighted.

AI Draft will suggest an appropriate place within your documents to place your content, but you can also manually control this.

Does AI Draft content need review?

Yes. The vast majority of the drafting in your documents will have been created using the automation (i.e. by applying drafting rules to drafting that have already been carefully reviewed in advance). By contrast, AI content is novel and will not have been reviewed before. You should review AI content for:

  • Cross-references: The AI does not yet automatically match references to other clauses.
  • Use of definitions: If your new clause uses a definition that doesn’t exist elsewhere, you’ll need to add and revise that new definition – you could use AI Draft to draft the new definition.
  • Legal and commercial effectiveness: Verify that the drafting meets your legal and commercial needs.

In short, always treat AI-generated content as a first cut that still needs your expert review.

My firm doesn’t allow generative AI tools. Can I still use Clarilis automation?

Yes, AI Draft can optionally be disabled in an automation.
